Paisley Makes The Perfect Snow Angel
Sweet Paisley really did make the perfect snow angel!
Backstory:
I went to Goodwill and I found this costume and the minute I laid eyes on it I knew I wanted to use it for a photo shoot. If you saw the dress in its original form you would've thought I was crazy. It was one layer, not poofy, there were some stains and you could tell it was a cheap Walmart Halloween costume. BUT I love getting crafty and love creating and I had a vision in my head. I wanted it to be fluffy and feathery and sparkly and represent a "Snow Angel". I took many trips to the store for glitter spray, feathers, a TON of tulle and feather trim and sparkly fabric. It took a while but in my spare time (that's a joke by the way because I have zero spare time lol) I was able to complete my masterpiece! Now, I'm no seamstress and that dress is definitely not made to last but I think it's decently secure and put together and it went perfectly with my snow angel wings I had gotten earlier in the year at one of those Spirit Halloween Stores.
Now, for the tricky part in my opinion. Finding a little girl who would be willing to endure the cold, have blonde hair (because that was my vision) and be just the right size for the dress. Yes, I have my own girls but firstly none of them are blondes and they also do not do well with being cold.....even though it will be snowing in Colorado and they'll be jumping in our trampoline barefoot and in shorts......I guess maybe they are more ok with being cold if they are in the mood lol.
Anywho, my husband reminded of his boss' daughter, Paisley. Oh, sweet sweet Paisley. She was perfect in every way. She is the daughter of some pretty popular parents, Jenny and Matt Smith. They are the owners of Snooze Mattress and Wake Up Pueblo and are the faces of Pueblo, Colorado. So, Paisley is used to smiling and having her picture taken and thinks nothing of it. She's also a dancer so she's used to performing and having all eyes on her so I knew she would be perfect to be my Snow Angel!
Paisley was totally fine with fake lashes, makeup and hair being done and then she endured the cold outdoors. She was an absolute trooper. We had blankets on hand and gloves and hand warmers but she's so petite that we took breaks to warm her up, her mom smothered her in hugs to keep her warm and my assistant, Crystal, carried her over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes at one point while Paisley was cracking up. She didn't complain once and my goodness is that like finding a unicorn since she's only 6 years old. So, thank you Paisley for being such a rockstar!!
We did the photos down in Pueblo at an overlook and then in a tree filled area near Jenny and Matt's house. Paisley photographed perfectly and I tried to work as quickly as I could. Crystal had help make my vision come true by doing an amazing job on her hair and makeup and was such a huge help.
I love fine art photography-it makes my creative soul so happy. It's so important to me to have creative sessions just for myself. Anytime I get burnt out I setup a creative session. It gets me so excited to turn something I had imagined into an actual reality-it's like hitting the restart button.
