Maternity Session At Garden of the Gods
Jennifer reached out to book a maternity session with mountains in the backdrop. Her and her family currently live in FL but will be moving to CO in the near future. She had her maternity session for her first child done on the beach and for her second child she wanted mountains and I aimed to deliver.
This adorable family traveled to Colorado for their dream session at Garden of the Gods. We ventured to one of my favorite locations to utilize the wide open spaces to really show off the giant rock formations behind them and ended the session with the very popular, Highpoint Overlook.
For the first portion of our session, Jennifer wore a beautiful blush gown that was super flowy, which I loved. I always encourage my moms to wear a dress or skirt at their session because it adds so much movement to the images. Her second dress was a gorgeous blue gown that really complimented her skin tone. The color was perfect to accent the stormy looking skies that evening too. Once we arrived at Highpoint Overlook the clouds had really darkened and added so much depth to their images and that blue dress could not have been more perfect.
Their little one, Nora was a complete ham for the camera. She giggled and smiled and was just as cute as can be. I can usually get littles to smile and laugh and for most of the session I was able to do just that with my weird noises and toys. There was, however, one part where I totally made poor Nora cry. Who knew she didn't like little monkey noises? But oh my God do you see that ADORABLE little pouty lip??? How freaking cute is she?!
Now, the day of a session I like to keep a constant eye on the weather and ask my clients to be a little flexible with session timing. Many of my clients travel to Colorado from elsewhere so we need to be able to have our session before they fly/drive home as obviously rescheduling isn't always possible. I had looked at the weather and bumped up our session by about 20 minutes in case we needed to wrap things up sooner from a storm coming in (supposedly monsoon-like rains). I have no problem shooting in a little rain if my clients are okay with it (most are) but lighting is a definitely no go for me-safety first! Well, Colorado is unpredictable so we were either going to do the session and get rained on or do the session and the skies would clear up. It stayed pretty cloudy and overcast 95% of the session and at the very end that beautiful golden sunlight cast beautiful rays over the mountains. The last few images are my favorites because I'm a sucker for beautiful light. Scroll down to check them out.
