Photography Is My Passion
If you asked me 6 years ago what I'd be doing in 6 years my answer would have been video editing. I was all about learning After Effects and was a pro at Final Cut Pro, in fact, I taught it to others. I never would have imagined being where I'm at today and I have my kids to thank for guiding me to my happy place.
As a parent, you don't want to blink if it means you might miss an important moment in your kids' lives. Realizing that for the first time as a new parent 6 years ago is what made me pick up a camera. I had taken pictures before back in high school and my Dad always shared his love for the art with me (he's a Canon lover). I always loved photography but didn't know how much I loved it until later on.
I started to photograph here and there and was more of a Momtographer than anything. Then, people started asking me to take pictures for them. I did some shoots here and there and dabbled in newborn photography but didn't know much about newborns at that time in my life. I did some engagement shoots and kids but didn't really think of turning it into a serious profession but more of a hobby and considered it a little extra income on the side. Then I had Arya, our now 4 year old, and I became a bit more intrigued by newborn photography. I took some absolutely horrendous images of her as a chunky little newborn and I realized I loved it. I started to do more and more newborn sessions in people's homes. It wasn't until a couple years later that I decided to take my photography professionally and start investing in my hobby-turned-profession.
One of the reasons I decided to take my newborn photography to the next level was because of this one image I have of Arya that is framed on our wall. Is the picture awful? Yes. Do I chuckle at how bad it is? Yes. BUT I still love it and I'm so grateful that I decided to take that picture no matter how bad it is. I love how squishy her cheeks are and I love how dark her hair was with bright blonde highlights (it was so cool let me tell you). I decided that I want to provide other parents with incredibly special images of their babies so they can cherish those images that way that I do. One day they will look at those pictures when their kids are grown and be reminded of how little they were. They will be reminded of how tiny or chunky they once were and of their squishy cheeks and flaky skin. What parent doesn't want to capture their little ones in their first moments of life?
So, today I'm proud to say I'm a professional newborn photographer striving to capture all of the special moments we hold near and dear to our hearts. My newborn sessions are my most booked session and I can officially say I'm a bit obsessed. I've never had so much passion and drive towards something as I do towards newborn photography. I am constantly learning and growing and tweaking my sessions and trying new things. I'm so grateful to have found my true calling and I owe it all to being a mom.
So, yup, just wanted to share my little reflection on how my photography career came to be!
